On arrival:
You will be welcomed by one of our receptionist who will ask you to fill in a form with your personal details. It would be useful if you are on any medication to bring along your prescription. Finally there are some details for you to read about the possible risks and side effects of treatment and our practice terms and conditions. The information you provide will be confidential.
Before treatment:
Rebecca will take a full medical case history from you including a postural assessment and any orthopaedic testing (if applicable). This will enable her to create a personal treatment plan for your specific needs. Your first appointment will last approximately one hour. All information you supply is confidential and protected in accordance with the Data Protection Act.
Treatment:
During the massage treatment it will be necessary to reveal appropriate parts of the body, although Rebecca uses towels to retain modesty and comfort. Massage oils are used during treatment and, although it is easily absorbed into the skin, it is advisable to come appropriately attired. Please bring a pair of loose fitting shorts for your comfort should any orthopaedic testing be required.
You are welcome to bring a friend or relation along to accompany you in the treatment room if you wish. A parent or guardian should accompany any person under 16 into the consultation.
If you have any concerns then please tell Rebecca beforehand.
If for some reason treatment is not appropriate, the reason will be explained to you and a more suitable referral will be suggested.
After treatment:
Treatments can leave you feeling tired and weary. In addition, muscles may feel sore for 24 hours after treatment. It is recommended that you drink plenty of water after your treatment to rehydrate and aid recovery.
Rebecca may provide you with a program of stretches and rehabilitation exercises if applicable; these will be discussed and demonstrated during the session to ensure you understand how to carry them out safely and effectively.
The number of treatment sessions you may need will vary depending on your condition and will be discussed.
Other points to note:
Informed consent is very important to us; we try to make you feel at ease by explaining things to you at each step of the process. If you are unsure of anything at any stage of the consultation please do ask.
If you have any questions or wish to discuss your problem with one of our practitioners first, they would be happy to speak with you on the telephone prior to booking an appointment.
