Quoted as being one of the most passionate students the Podiatry department at the University of Huddersfield has come across, Matthew is the type of person who always tries to make the best of a situation.
Matthew sees Lincolnshire as his home after living here since 1991, he has a wide employment background ranging from delivery driving through to sales management but there was always a desire to help people in a healthcare setting. He spent 4 years studying in Huddersfield culminating with a 1st class honours degree in podiatry. While at university, he was named Huddersfields’ National Representative as well as being named chairman of the Student branch of the professions’ society, has been a part of the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists Council and been published in the monthly podiatry journal.
Matthew is a keen professional who enjoys the personal side of Podiatry, getting to know his patients and continuing to learn about the subject. He would one day like to run his own healthcare service and continue to have an influence in decision making across the profession.
Outside of clinical hours, Matthew is a committee member of the Graduate Support Network where he helps organise events and training for podiatrists around the country, gaining experience and extra training wherever he goes.
Away from Podiatry, Matthew is a former semi-professional footballer who has now turned his attention to the lesser known sport of Ultimate Frisbee. He loves the sense of community that the sport embodies and enjoys the high physical demand. Aside from this he plays in a snooker league every week and is enjoying being close to his young nieces.
