Ian had suffered from back pain himself since 16 years old. He tried physiotherapy and chiropractic therapy but the only treatment that worked was osteopathy. After 15 years working for various charities including Barnardo’s, Cancer Research UK and the British Heart Foundation; Ian wanted a new challenge where he could directly impact and improve people’s lives – so osteopathy seemed like the ideal choice!
Ian completed the 5-year Master’s degree course at the London School of Osteopathy. It was hard work having to combine the course and the 1,300 clinical hours whilst working for the RFU and having a young family but he graduated with Distinction. On qualifying Ian initially began treating NHS patients referred by GPs across Lincolnshire but since September last year he has been working here at The Wellhead Practice.
Ian really enjoys his work, finding the ability to transform someone’s wellbeing and quality of life for the better immensely rewarding. Each day Ian finds the opportunities to help whether it be to enable someone to walk more easily so they can continue to get in and out of town, reduce their pain levels sufficiently to avoid reliance on painkillers or just getting someone back to doing something they love; like running, golf, bowls or even knitting is enormously satisfying. Ian finds every patient brings a slightly different problem to solve with different issues which keeps it challenging,
When Ian is not doing osteopathy, he is kept busy by his two children and road biking which does include the occasional 100 mile charity bike ride too.
